Since the part of the weather-dependent wind- and photovoltaic energy in the power production is constantly increasing, reliable forecasts of the wind- and solar power generation are nowadays indispensable for the management of power plants and for the trade in electricity. EuroWind is therefore offering the option to forecast the energy quantity generated by wind and sun with highest accuracy with its internationally acredited forecast model SOWIE.

New measures for wind energy forecasts

The accredited wind energy forecasts of EuroWind have been the definite winner in an independent comparison of selected German wind energy forecast systems. The comparison of the systems has shown that the energy forecast of the EuroWind GmbH is setting new benchmarks. For intraday- and day-ahead-forecasts as well as for predictions up to 96 hours the accredited program system SOWIE is offering a forecast accuracy which is by 45% better than the other ones. This is a winning margin in preciseness which pays off for the customers of EuroWind in the true sense of the word!

The constantly high quality of our forecast is achieved by computing ensemble forecasts. In order to capture the three-dimensional flow dynamic, the wind- and temperature forecasts of several numerical forecast models are being consulted. For each individual wind mill a turbine-specific forecast is computed on the basis of the before mentioned high resolution data. Thereby a detailed reflection of the regional and temporal variation of the wind power production is possible. The indication of a confidence range will optimize the management of grid loads and provides the decisive winning margin in information for the trade in electricity.
