In order to localize the best sites for wind farms EuroWind provides - besides wind resource- and energy yield assessments for individual wind farms - high-resolution maps of the area-wide wind energy potential in structured terrain with the internationally accredited program system WIEN. Thereby it is possible to mark primacy areas. Especially for wind energetic areas which had been poorly developed up to now, this offers a cost-efficient and time-saving option for site allocation.

For the site analyses we are able to compute the wind energetic parameters and energy yields for optional type of turbines or hub heights. The results are provided as large scaled presentation graphics or maps.

In order to simulate the wind conditions characterized by the orography, a three dimensional numeric flow model is applied and coupled with a statistical dynamical climate model. This complex procedure is also able to assess the climatological wind conditions for sites, where no long term wind measurements had been performed.

Being an active member of the wind expert advisory board of the Bundesverband Windenergie (Federal association of wind energy), wind resource- and energy yield assessments by EuroWind comply with the specifications supplied by the expert advisory board concerning the quality and the scope of wind resource- and energy yield assessments. To our customers this mean approved, bancable results and an increased reliability in planning for the design and financing of wind farms.

Our scope of service for regional wind potential maps includes:

Application of the internationally, according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited system WIEN
Specification of parameters for any heights above ground

Illustration of optional parameters in combination with topographic maps

Large-scaled presentation graphics/maps



Following applications show the capabililtes of the internationally accredited prognosis system WIEN for the computation of wind power potential maps:

Influence of the terrain structure on the direction-dependent frequency allocation (wind roses) of the wind close to ground level.

Area-wide energy yield calculation for Benin (Western Africa). Besides measured surface wind statistics, digital SRTM terrain data of the NASA had been used as input.
